Actor John Dumelo has reportedly withdrawn for contesting the Ayawaso West Wuogon primaries on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress(NDC)
A statement from the constituency office of the NDC, Dumelo together with another candidate, Ewoenam Y. A. Attidokpo withdrew from the race “due to some personal reasons.”
It was unclear as yet what the “personal reason” for Dumelo’s withdrawal from the race, but is believed that party hierarchy prevailed upon him to withdraw and target a seat in the Volta Region where he hails and votes from.
The actor is however yet to make a public statement indicating why he decided to withdraw from contesting the primary seat of Ayawaso West Wuogon.
Meanwhile, a Deputy National Communications Director of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), said Dumelo did not qualify to contest because he does not vote in the constituency
According to him, the right thing ought, the the actoe did not have the right to contest in the constituency because, per the records they had because his name was not in their register.
A total of eight persons expressed interest in contesting in the elections to lead the party in the by-election for the constituency in January 2019, but at the close of filing on Saturday, December 22, only three persons successfully filed their nomination.
The three are Ekwow Acquah, Delali Kwasi Brempong and Donna Selassie Agbo.
Three other candidates, Alhaji Isaah Kamara, Catherine Abrokwa Mante and Kojo Twum Boafo, failed to file their nominations before the 5:00pm deadline.
