- Some chiefs in the Volta region are allegedly behind a plot to cause confusion in the region
- This is in connection with the referendum to determine the creation of the new regions
- The regional police commander has however warned of dire consequences if acts of violence are carried out
Some chiefs in the Volta Region are allegedly mobilizing motorists to cause mayhem in order to disrupt a referendum.
YEN.com.gh understands that the referendum is to be held in order to determine whether or not new regions should be created in Ghana.
Sources reveal that the proposed Oti region appears to have attracted controversy, as there appear to be plans to disrupt the process.
Police officials have however disclosed that they will ruthlessly deal with all plans to cause mayhem on the day of the referendum.
The Volta regional police commander, DCOP Francis Doku said, “we are receiving reports that some chiefs are organizing motorbike riders to come and create mayhem.
My advice to those riders is that they must rescind their decision because when they come and they create any mayhem, they will meet us squarely.
We are prepared for them; anybody who will put any impediment in the way of the referendum will not have it easy,” he added.
He went ahead to admonish everyone to abide by the rules and not do anything untoward to interrupt the process.
The referendum will take place in 47 districts in six regions across the country.
