- He had attempted to kill all three sons but the eldest managed to escaped
- Sunday was told by the prophet that his sons were responsible for his illness and other woes
A father in Nigeria, Samuel Sunday Otasi, has commited a serious crime by killing two of his sons following a pastors declaration that they were demons.
Otasi hails from Agbobiri community, Biseni clan, in Yenagoa local government area in Nigeria's Bayelsa State.
In a post sighted by YEN.com.gh on social media, the father was said to have picked his three sons from a deliverance service in church on December 29, 2018, and conveyed them into a bush along Glory Land Drive, Igbogene, where he allegedly tied his sons to a tree and fed them with poison in the company of one his cousins.
A Yenagoa-based prophet, George Odoko, of the George Odoko Outreach Ministries, was the pastor who reportedly told Otasi that his sons, 14-year-old Success, Miracle and Godstime, 12 and 10 respectively, were bewitched by their mother who happened to be the suspect’s estranged wife.
He told him that the children were responsible for his illness and other woes.
However, it is not clear if the pastor ordered the killing of the children after declaring them demons.
While the suspect succeeded in killing two of the children, 14-year-old Success, the eldest son, managed to escape and was found unconscious by passers-by along the road.
The good Samaritans rescued and rushed him to the hospital where he was treated.
The poor boy narrated his ordeal to his helpers and a report was filed with the police who quickly initiated a search for the suspects.
They first to be arrested was Preye, said to be the cousin of the children's father who was present during the criminal act.
He later led the officers to their house in Okarki, where Otasi was arrested.
After his arrest, Otasi was said to have denied knowledge of the death of his children, saying another cousin, one Levi, should be held responsible for anything pertaining to the safety or otherwise of the children.
Meanwhile, some prophets in Ghana have also made wild prophecies since the year started and this has landed one of them, Rev. Owusu Bempah, in trouble.
Bempah had claimed that the national chief imam was part of the list of people including former presidents John Mahama, John Kufuor, and his wife to die this year.
However, some Muslim youth group did not take his prophecies lightly and decide to attack him.
His church in Odorkor, a suburb of Accra, was vandalized and his security man nearly lynched.
The security man has thus said he needed weapons to protect himself if the church wanted him to continue with the job.
In a related development, another pastor, Prophet King Kweku Williams, has said Ghana will lose many pastors this year, including one prominent pastor whose death would shock the whole nation.
