A flagbearer aspirant of the apposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, believes he has what it takes to get Ghanaians to vote back the party into power in 2020.

The former Communications Minister says if elected to lead the NDC, he will be able to convince Ghanaians to vote for the party in the 2020 polls.

Mr. Spio-Garbrah said he changed the minds of Ghanaians to accept the Value Added Tax (VAT) after an earlier attempt faced a fierce resistance by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking to some NDC delegates in the Tema East Constituency on Thursday, he said despite the limited time to campaign, he would be able to change the minds of Ghanaians to vote for the NDC if elected the party’s flagbearer.

And in the same way, I can change the minds of Ghanaians to vote for NDC within 18 months after winning the NDC primaries,” he stated.

Mr. Spio-Garbrah is among five men who are gunning to become the NDC’s flagbearer ahead of the 2020 general elections.

The others are former president John Dramani Mahama, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra, Professor Joshua Alabi, Sylvester Mensah, a former Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority; Stephen Atubiga and Alban Bagbin.

However, Mr. Spio Garbrah pointed out that the competition for the NDC flagbearership was among friends and brothers.

According to him, once a position in the party is vacant, anybody who is qualified has the right to contest.

He further promised the delegates that, when elected president, he will not sit at the Jubilee House but will hold regular interactions with the party faithful.

I won’t sit at the Flagstaff House and allow security and protocol officers to stop you when you want to see me. I’ll have regular interactions with you at the party headquarters,” Mr. Spio-Garbrah added.

The NDC is set to go to the polls on January 26 to elect its presidential candidate ahead of the 2020 elections.
