The lawyer noted that even though they received a communique from Securities and Exchange Commission in December 2018 revealing that the embattled CEO of Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah had absconded to South Africa, they will continue with the law suit.
“What is reality however is that 1.8 million Ghanaians have been affected in the last five years in the region of $200 million invested in an unregulated company," she revealed
"The reality of the situation is that people just want their money,” she added.
She said that the 1.8 million figure she cited was gotten from unnamed sources within certain government departments.
Mrs. Clinton also noted that she was concerned with the lack of action from government on the matter.
“You can’t take $200 million of people’s money and nobody even arrest you or questions you or feel a need to,” the lawyer said.
Mrs. Clinton added that: “at least the president should trigger the Attorney General to trigger CID to trigger Interpol to take action on the CEO of Menzgold."
Menzgold's woes began when the Security and Exchange Commission revealed that the gold firm was operating illegally.
The revelation led to an order given by SEC directed at Menzgold Ghana Company Limited to halt taking in new deposits.
Customers of the gold dealership company got agitated over SEC's directives and rushed to their respective Menzgold branches to retrieve their investments.
It was at that point that the CEO of Menzgold also reportedly ordered the closure of all its branches.
Since then, customers of the embattled company have been unable to retrieve their investments.
It is for such reason that some aggrieved customers went to contract Lawyer Amanda Clinton of Clinton, Amoo-Lamptey, Barnsbury Chambers to assist retrieve their locked up cash.
