- The CID boss has announced that the Menzgold CEO, Nana Appiah Mensah, has been declared wanted by the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL)
- She said the declaration was made after a court issued a warrant for NAM1's arrest
- The Menzgold CEO is currently on the run and has been charged with "defrauding by false pretense"
The Director-General of the CID, Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, says her outfit had engaged the INTERPOL to help in the arrest of Menzgold CEO, Nana Appiah Mensah.
NAM 1 has been declared a wanted man both on and off the shores of Ghana after a warrant was issued for his arrest on Wednesday, January 9, 2019.
An Accra Circuit court issued the warrant for the arrest of the embattled businessman on charges of "defrauding by false pretense".
This follows the inability of Menzgold to make refunds to aggrieved customers whose investments remain locked up for about six months now after BoG and SEC shut down the company.
In an interview with Joy News, the CID boss said NAM 1 is now a wanted man in all 194-member states of INTERPOL.
According to her, an investigation about him was started in December last year, and now the police had reached a level that it can make an arrest.
“We started this investigation somewhere in December and we have gotten to the level where we are ready to issue an arrest. That is why when we got to know that NAM 1 was not in the country, we initiated the processes of informing INTERPOL so that the 194-member states will help us arrest him,” she said.
She also debunked earlier claims that the Police arrested the Menzgold boss and he absconded.
According to her, at no point did the police apprehend the young business mogul, as earlier suggested.
“Rather, we [police] are looking for him. It is only NAM 1 that we are looking for. We had already obtained the warrant of arrest for two other directors [of Menzgold],” the CID boss explained.
Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh earlier reported the claims of Gabby Otchere-Darko, a high-ranking NPP member, and confidante of President Akufo-Addo, that NAM1 had breached his bail condition and run away.
He thus charged all Ghanaians to be on the lookout for him and report his whereabouts.
In a related development, it has been established that all four directors of Menzgold, including NAM1 himself, were close relatives.
They included Rose Tetteh, his wife, Abigail Mensah, and Benedicta Appiah, his younger sisters.
