It is safe to say that Shatta Wale has transcended the bounds of music and has become a symbol of home for a particular group of people.
If you have done some of the unforgivable things the artiste has done but you are still forgiven, you have to know that the backing comes from more than music. He is backed by people who see hope and truth in him.
One can argue as whether there is actually hope and truth is Shatta Wale. What cannot be taken away from him is that he has, through his career, made himself the voice of “his people”.
His people, according to him, are on the streets and ghettos.
YEN.com.gh gives four reasons why Shatta Wale will never lose the support of his people in the ghettos.
1. Rags to riches story
Shatta Walle or Charles Mensah Jnr, does not exactly come from abject poverty. This fact is because his father has been for many years, a relatively successful businessman.
But the musician has succeeded in selling the idea that he made it from absolute zero. The bigger point is that he has been believed and has been blessed as the apostle for the underprivileged.
2. He actually gives a voice to them
Say what you like about his style but Shatta Wale actually gives a voice to the people in those areas politicians quickly overlook. He has on several occasions called out politicians for neglect.
One should not lose sight of what he is saying because of how he says it. After all, if you pick most people fromthe places Shatta Wale claims to represent, that is how they will say it.
3. He does not want to be refined to be taken seriously
Most people, those in creative arts and showbiz for instance, want their views on non-art matters to be taken seriously. So they polish up, looking to be seen as refined.
Shatta Wale does not have time for that. His rawness has a sense of authenticity and his supporters think to themselves, “this guy will never betray us”.
4. He is doing good work in the ghetto
Some people just talk and say all the good things that can happen. Others commit their resources into helping.
Shatta Wale is a braggart. But he has works to show for the bragging so his people would not mind much the noise he makes about his deeds.
