But just eight minutes into the second half, Lionel Messi scored his 400th Spanish League goal as coach Ernesto Valverde's men went two goals up in the 53rd minute.
Suarez completed his brace in the fixture with another fine finish in the 60th minute as the Blaugrana retain their five points margin over Atletico Madrid who are second on the log.
Barcelona came into this meeting on the back of their 2-1 defeat to Levante in the Copa Del Rey round of 16 first leg clash.
And this victory will boost their morale as they welcome Levante to Camp Nou this week for the second leg, and hope that they can overturn the result and progress to the next stage of the tourney.
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Barcelona suffered a 2-1 defeat to Levante in the first leg of their Copa Del Rey round of 16 clash at the Estadio Ciudad de Valencia on Thursday night.
Erick Cabaco opened scoring for the hosts as early as the fourth minute of the encounter with Ruben Rochina claiming the assist for the goal.
And just 14 minutes later, Borja Mayoral doubled his side's lead as cruised to a 2-0 win after the first half of the encounter, but Philippe Coutinho's late minute goal from the spot kick was a mere consolation.
