Wife of world's richest man to get over $60 billion after divorce is finalised

The high stakes divorce of Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos will involve unimaginable sums of money but the case may be easier to negotiate than with regular earners simply because they are so rich.

According to state law in Washington where the couple's divorce petition was filed, MacKenzie is entitled to 50% of the wealth Jeff Bezos made during the time of their marriage. They were married for 25 years.

During that period, Jeff Bezos moved from a lowly tech entrepreneur to the world's richest man. The respected tech site NDTV.com values Bezos' wealth at around $137 billion or about GHC 670 billion.

Of course, much of that value is tied up in stock and assets. But the law still holds that MacKenzie, if granted divorce by a judge, has ownership of half of anything that is monetarily valuable to Bezos.

It is not known what sparked the split but as things stand, MacKenzie is looking at pocketing about $66 billion.

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos announced that he was divorcing his beautiful wife he has been married to for 25 years.

Through a statement posted on Twitter, Bezos, who is currently the world's richest person, announced it was over between him and MacKenzie.

However, unlike other divorce episodes that end in acrimonious fallouts, the couple said they had a wonderful time together and expressed optimism to continue working as family and cherished friends.

Bezos announced the split on his social media account earlier on Wednesday, January 9, 2019.
