The Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, Abdul-Malik Kweku Baako Jnr, is disputing claims that gold dealership firm, Menzgold, has about one million customers whose funds are locked up with the firm.
The veteran journalist said his checks showed that Menzgold had a combined clientele of 4,924 customers at the branches, with the exception of the Kaneshie branch.
During a segment on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, Baako sent in a text message saying, the huge figures are obvious exaggerations.
For the Kaneshie branch of the company, Baako says he is yet to uncover details of the clientele.
However, the intimation of an exaggeration borders on the idea that Menzgold and certain people want to paint a more horrible portrait for public sympathy.
This was Baako's text: “For the records: The number of Menzgold customers/investors is not above 10,000!
My checks show that minus the figure of the Kaneshie branch(which I am yet to verify), the overall customers/investors strength number not more than 5,000.
Menzgold runs 7 branches including the Head Office; Kasoa, East Legon, Tema, Dzorwulu (Head Office), Kumasi, Tarkwa and Kaneshie. The figures 1.8m, 60,000 etc, are obvious exaggerations!”
He continued, as seen here in a Facebook post:
Menzgold has been under pressure to repay monies back to people who invested with the gold dealership. Numerous online and street protests have been held by angry customers.
It was earlier reported that acting communication director of the company, Nii Armah Amarteifio, said the company had about 60,000 customers.
This was in a sharp rebuttal to a claim made by a lawyer for some aggrieved Menzgold customers, Amanda Clinton, that the number of customers was 1.8 million.
