- A top NDC official, Sammy Gyamfi, has claimed that President Akufo-Addo and Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta are greedy
- According to him, their greed outweighs that of the customers of Menzgold Ghana Limited
- Gyamfi's comments follow that of Ofori Atta who said the government would not pay the monies invested with the company to the clients
The National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has claimed that two top government officials are the greediest people in Ghana.
Per a classfmonline report, he said that President Akufo-Addo and Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta have exhibited serious signs of greed that cannot be compared to that of the clients of Menzgold Ghana Limited.
For that reason, he went on, the president and the finance minister have no moral right to describe the clients as greedy.
Speaking at the 20th-anniversary ceremony of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Wednesday, 21 November 2018, Ofori-Atta said that all those who invested monies with Menzgold were greedy and did so at their own peril.
"As we try to clean up the financial services sector, I know the SEC has come down hard, strong and justifiably on Menzgold. I think it is not in the place of government to fund or get your money back for you,” Ofori Atta stated.
He further noted that measures will be implemented to ensure that people are sufficiently educated so that they don’t fall prey to such schemes.
In reaction to his comments, Gyamfi argued that the president and the minister have begun taking control of everything in Ghana.
For that reason, he went on, they are the ones exhibiting signs of greed and not the Menzgold clients.
He therefore called on the government to ensure that the aggrieved customers get back their investments.
