News reaching YEN.com.gh indicates that the Managing Director of the Ghana Airport Company, John Dekyem Attafuah, has been removed.
Attafuah has been asked to proceed on leave, a political synonym in Ghana for removal from office.
His removal is expected to be another round of a non-ministerial reshuffle, as reports indicate that he is expected to be reassigned according to Myjonline.com reports.
Sources explained that the decision to reshuffle the official was reached during a government retreat at Peduase Lodge in December 2018.
The non-ministerial reshuffle is the second by the Akufo-Addo government.
In June 2018, the government announced the removal of four heads of state institutions.
The changes occurred at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company and the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
The removal of Attafuah signals a wave of removals and possible sackings within the Akufo-Addo government.
However, the Board of the airport company, which manages all airports and aerodromes, headed by Oboshie Sai-Coffie, had not been dissolved as reported in some sections of the media.
Attafuah had been managing the Ghana Airport Company for 22 months following his appointment in March 2017.
