Government should have given NAM1's Menzgold a second chance - Social media user

Media personality, political critic and private lawyer, Maurice Ampaw, has expressed his misgivings about how the government was treating the whole Menzgold issue.

He said government was aware of the operations of Menzgold but has now decide to collapse it because the activities of Menzgold was collapsing the Bank of Ghana and Databank.

He believed that whatever the government was doing would not favor them in the 2020 election.

Social media users have however opined on what the popular lawyer said.

Bros said the government could have given Nana Appiah Mensah’s Menzgold a second chance in order to right their wrongs.

Joseph believes it is not a political issue so the lawyer should desist from pulling politics into it.

Ibrahim believes Maurice Ampaw is simply a greedy man.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Maurice Ampaw admitted in December 2018 that he and his wife were customers of the embattled gold trading company.

He defended the company against what he felt was government's unfair treatment with issues related to the gold trading company.

The lawyer claimed that he purchased 50 pounds of gold worth GHC 100,000 three times totaling GHC 300,000 before the company ran into crisis.

Ampaw also claimed that his cousin invested GHC 520,000 while his wife invested GHC 200,000, cumulatively making GHC 1,200,000 of total cash lodged with Menzgold.
