- Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has been rewarded by the AIPS for his ‘Number 12’
- An emotional Anas dedicated the award to his dead colleague Ahmed who was murdered
- He also revealed a message Ahmed would have given to audience if he were alive
Ghana’s renowned investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has received an intentional award for his ‘Number 12’ investigative work.
It is a special award for investigative journalism at the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Sports Media Awards which was held in Switzerland recently.
The award comes less than a week after the gruesome murder of Ahmed Hussein-Suale, his key partner with whom he worked with at TigerEye PI agency.
This is contained in a report sighted by YEN.com.gh on Citinewsroom.com.
Ahmed played an integral role in the ‘Number12’ exposé that uncovered corruption in African football, for which Anas received the honours.
He is reported to have been at the forefront of the meeting with the disgraced GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, who was the biggest casualty of the exposé and eventually got banned by FIFA.
Before Anas addressed the audience at the event in Lausanne, Switzerland, a minute’s silence was observed in memory of late Ahmed.
Anas dedicated the award to Ahmed, and reiterated that despite the unfortunate incident, he and his team remained resolute in their desire to root out corruption in the society.
“I receive this award in honour of my colleague, Ahmed Hussein. I know that he would have been with me to receive this award, but for the unfortunate incident. If there’s any message that Ahmed would have loved me to give to you all you, it would have been a simple one that we will never surrender because journalism is not a crime,” Anas disclosed.
The sad story of Ahmed, as earlier reported by YEN.com.gh occurred on the night of Wednesday, January 16, 2019.

He was shot three times – twice in his chest while seated in his car, and one in his neck in a salon killing him instantly.
An eyewitness has narrated thoroughly how the death took place including that his assailants lurked in the area from afternoon till nightfall to kill Ahmed.
Ahmed himself was reported to have seen his death coming in a Whtsapp message he sent to a journalist group he belonged to.
Meanwhile, the police said they have commenced ‘rigorous’ investigations into the murder.
According to a statement issued by the police and reported by YEN.com.gh, NPP MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, as well as Kwesi Nyantakyi, have been interrogated and statements taken from them.
The police also urged members of the public who may have any information about the death to report to the nearest police station.
