5 reasons why Agyapong would walk away a free man after Ahmed's death

On Wednesday, January 16, 2019, Ahmed Hussein-Suale, an associate of investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, was killed by unidentified people who reportedly rode motorbikes.

He was allegedly shot twice in the chest and once in the chest and died even before being rushed to the hospital.

In a video that Anas released a few hours after his death, Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, was captured issuing threats to Ahmed.

Agyapong and the former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, were questioned by the police with respect to Suale’s death.

For the under listed reasons, Agyapong may however walk away a free man after the dust has settled:

1. Anas’ video & Agyapong’s denial:

Mixed reactions greeted the release of a video by Anas Aremeyaw Anas, hours after Ahmed Hussein-Suale's death. Kennedy Agyapong later denied he was involved in the murder. The speed with which both activities took place may get Agyapong off the hook, as Anas' act may be deemed premature and Agyapong's reaction may prove to be important to the investigation.

2. Party in power:

Kennedy Agyapong belongs to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), and may escape prison if political pressure is exerted on the investigative bodies.

3. Words in video was to protect his property:

Kennedy Agyapong denied knowledge of Ahmed's death and instead blamed Anas Aremeyaw Anas for the murder. He again clarified his words in the earlier video by saying that his intent was to protect his property from people such as Anas and Ahmed.

4. Likelihood of other suspects Nyantakyi, Anas & others:

The 'Number 12' investigative documentary captured a number of people engaged in acts of corruption. This opens the floodgates and makes it possible for numerous people to wish Ahmed, given that his image was displayed just after 'Number 12' was released.

5. Insufficient evidence to convict him:

At the moment, the only connection Agyapong has to Ahmed's death is his words in the video released by Anas. The courts may require more evidence if it intends to convict him, if the case goes to court.
