The Western Region and Sekondi-Takoradi specifically, have been rocked with reports of kidnappings over the last few months.

Recently, a suspect, Nigerian Sam Udoetuk Wills, was re-arrested after breaking out of police custody. However, none of the people he is thought to have kidnapped have been found.

1. Being mindful of the environment

Individuals have to be mindful of the environment in which they find themselves. When you find yourself in a place where you do not feel safe, it is advisable to call someone to inform them of your whereabouts.

2. Avoid boarding vehicles with suspicious individuals

Sometimes some kidnappers hide under the guise of operating cab businesses just to get their victims. In order to avoid falling into the hands of these evil-minded individuals, it would be prudent to be mindful of the people sitting in the vehicles with suspicious characters.

3. Move in groups

It is advisable to move in groups when going out especially in times like this where kidnapping is rife. Moving in groups would not encourage kidnappers to carry out their intended plans

4. Keeping protective items

In the bid to protect oneself against attacks from people with the intention of kidnapping, it is advisable to keep some items to protect yourself anytime you come under attack. One could keep pepper sprays, knives and probably a registered gun to protect oneself from an evil-minded fellows.

5. Avoid keeping late nights

Keeping late nights is a serious recipe for kidnapping. Most kidnappers operate during these hours when a lot of people were fast asleep.
