Eight persons including alleged illegal miner Kwesi Bantama, have been arrested in Gbani in Talensi following the death of 16 persons in a mining pit in the area.
Five out of the eight the arrested persons were workers of the Shaanxi Mining Company.
According to DCOP Paul Ayertey, the Deputy Upper East Police Commander, all those they believed were complicit in the matter have been arrested and investigations were ongoing.
Explaining why persons from the Shaanxi company had been arrested, DCOP Aryeetey said, they needed to sample information from all who they believed had something to tell them from either side.
The accident occurred on Wednesday, January 23, near a Shaanxi mining site, in Talensi in the Upper East region.
The company has however distanced itself from the incident that occurred at the mines snd blamed the whole incident on one Kwasi Bantama.
The Shaanxi Mining Company has been ordered to halt operations at Gbani following the deaths to allow for investigations to take place.
This is the second of such suspensions following a similar incident in 2017 that claimed seven lives.
Sixteen miners who lost their lives in the Talensi mine explosion have been released to their families for burial.
Meanwhile those who sustained various degrees of injuries are responding to treatment at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital.
