- Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic might be joining Arsenal before the end of January transfer window
- The 29-year-old was said to have handed his Serie A side a transfer request to force a move away from the club
- Perisic was however left on the bench in his side's slim defeat to Torino in Sunday's Italian League clash
Out of favour Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic could be on his way to Arsenal before the close of winter transfer season.
The Croatian attacker was said to have secured an agreement in principle to join the Gunners having emerged as a top transfer target for the north Londoners earlier this month.
According to Daily Star, Inter had earlier rejected a loan deal from the Premier League club for their star as they are hoping to release him on a permanent move.
La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira claims both Arsenal and the Serie A side will hold important meeting later today to decide the future of the Croat.
“Arsenal is continuing to talk with Inter for Ivan Perisic (he has an agreement with Gunners),” Schira wrote on Twitter.
“Sanllehi has offered a transfer on loan with option to buy. Marotta prefers to a permanent deal or obligation to buy. Tomorrow there'll be new contacts.”
Perisic had submitted a transfer request on Sunday as he hopes to seal his move to the Emirates Stadium this month.
After handing in his transfer request, his manager was forced to leave him on the bench in their 1-0 defeat to Torino.
Inter Milan boss boss Luciano Spalletti was critical of Perisic after the final whistle, saying that: "Perisic, it's simple. As I said yesterday, players can say what they want.
"Of course they're at the club, they're paid by us, so you need to have a buyer. He cannot go away for free.
"If he does not want to play as Marotta said, it is clear that he will stay out (of the team). There are no problems, when one cannot make a contribution, it helps to get rid of them."
Inter's director of football Giuseppe Marotta also has this to say about the 29-year-old: "Perisic has asked to leave but there is no offer for him. We will see in the coming days (what happens).
"We will listen to the request of Perisic, he has put in a transfer request; we must try to satisfy him but also respect the value of him."
Legit.ng earlier reported that Ivan Perisic has emerged as top priority transfer target for Premier League outfit Arsenal this month.
The Gunners are hoping they can absorb the Croatian, who is currently struggling at San Siro into their squad until the rest of the ongoing season.
Perisic has scored just three goals in two assists in all competitions for his side this campaign, but has recently fallen out of favour with his manager Luciano Spalletti.
