The Eastern Region Football Association chairman, A.A. Lawal has been confirmed dead.
The football administrator was pronounced dead on arrival at the Nsawam Government Hospital on Monday, January 28, 2019.
In a report sighted by YEN.com.gh sighted on FootballMadeInGhana.com, Alhaji Mamudu, relative of Lawal confirmed the latter's death.
According to him, the late Lawal fell sick on Thursday, January 24, 2019, and was taken to the hospital but was discharged after some medications.
“Yes, it’s true. He was pronounced dead after we got to the hospital. We took him earlier to a near-by clinic and was referred to the Nsawam Government Hospital.
“He fell sick on Thursday but the sickness subsided after some medication. But this morning it got serious and by the time we got to the hospital, he was pronounced dead,” he narrated.
Until his death, Lawal was a member of the Executive Committee of the Ghana FA.
Lawal was one of the top FA officials captured in Anas' number 12 video which saw the deceased taking some money to influence the outcome of a certain football match.
In other news, Djibril Yattara who was Guinea's first choice goalkeeper at the 2015 FIFA Under 17 World Cup in Chile is dead after battling with unknown illness for weeks in Conakry.
His untimely demise has however thrown the entire Guinea football fraternities into shock and serious mourning considering how good and promising the career of the goalie was.
