Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson has for the first time lauded former president Mahama for some initiatives he rolled out when he was president.
Yvonne, known to have severely criticised the Mahama government and campaigning against it, has confessed that Mahama wasn’t a bad president after all.
She made this known when she appeared as a guest together with John Dumelo on Yvonne Okoro’s ‘Dinning with cooks and braggart’ monitored by YEN.com.gh on January 26, 2019, on TV3.
According to Yvonne, she expressed utmost shock at visiting the Ridge Hospital which was constructed by the NDC government led by Mahama.
She revealed further that seeing the newly constructed Terminal 3 at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), also left her in shock and she wondered if she was in Ghana.
“But I think Mahama too did a great job. He was not bad. I visited the Ridge Hospital and the terminal 3 at the airport and I was very shocked,” Yvonne said.
Asked by Okoro how she felt about the current NPP leadership, Yvonne admitted that “times are hard”, but she was quick to add that “..but like John [Dumelo] said, Rome was not built in a day.”
The actress further expressed disappointment in the government saying that they had neglected her after coming to power
“NPP, you think they care about me? they do not care about me. I risked my life and my career for them but no one cares…no one even called to ask Yvonne are you safe, should we provide you security after I led the dumsor vigil,” she lamented.
She had led a strong protest against the former president during the time that dumsor plagued the country.
That led many people to discern her political colours that she was affiliated to the NPP.
However, Yvonne said she just wanted to be a voice for the voiceless for which reason she led the protest and not necessarily she being NPP.
She also revealed her political ambition to serve as an ambassador to a “nice country” one day.
Yvonne also touched on her love life, disclosing that she was no longer dating her British boyfriend, Jamie Roberts.
