Thursday's by-election at the Ayawaso West Wuogon on Thursday, January 31, 2019, did indeed happen, but with a number of unexpected developments.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Dzata George, was reportedly assaulted in the course of the elections.
4. Shooting in front of Delali Kwasi Brempong’s house:
YEN.com.gh understands that there was a shooting incident in front of the house of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) aspirant for the by-election, Delai Kwasi Brempong.
5. Lydia Alhassan's birthday:
One of the candidates, Lydia Alhassan, is celebrating her birthday on the same day the by-election is taking place, Thursday, January 31, 2019.
6. One polling station has suspended elections:
Unconfirmed reports suggest that one polling station has suspended the election, as a result of confusion that started there.
7. Possible retaliation by NDC:
