Seven people have reportedly been arrested by the police following the violence that has marred the on-going by-election to elect a member of parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon.
Violence erupted at the La-Bawaleshie Presby polling station which is near the residence of the opposition NDC's candidate, Delali Kwasi Brempong, barely two hours after the polls were opened on Thursday, January 31 2019.
As earlier reported by YEN.com.gh, gunshots were fired by some people suspected to be members of a vigilante group supporting the ruling NPP.
New reports YEN.com.gh monitored on Peace FM have indicated that seven people have been arrested in connection with the violence.
The suspects were identified as Theophilus Sedaku, Amidu Amadu, James Moore, and Samuel Afialo. The rest are Mohammed Latif, Mudamil Munir, and Hudu Fuseini.
The seven, the report explained, had been identified as the main instigators of the violence which has led to seven people getting injured with one of them in a very critical condition.
Touching on the situation of the injured, the Peace FM correspondent stated that the one whose condition was very critical had been the 37 Military Hospital to have bullet pellets in his leg removed while the rest were responding to treatment at the Legon Hospital.
Meanwhile, information reaching YEN.com.gh indicate that two people have been shot dead in the same violent incident.
The dead persons, according to an eyewitnesses who spoke with the TV station, were NDC supporters who were shot in the back of the head, and another person in the stomach, ribs and legs.
