The Ghana Police service has issued a statement regarding the shooting incident that was reported at the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency by-election this morning, January 31, 2019.
According to the statement signed by Superintendent, Shiela Kessie Abayie-Buckman, calm had been restored to the polling centre at La- Bawaleshie.
The statement revealed that no deaths have been recorded as reported by various media outlets.
But the statement confirmed that six persons have been injured as a result of the shooting incidents and were receiving treatment at the Legon and 37 military hospitals.
The Inspector General of Police(IGP) , David Asante Appeatu has called on the director of the Criminal Investigation Department to speed up investigations into the incident.
The police has however urged the residents of Bawaleshie to go about their duties freely as more police personnel have been deployed to ensure law and order in the area.

Meanwhile the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the National Democratic Congress of orchestrating the shooting at La-Bawaleshie in Accra that temporarily led to the disruption of voting at a polling station in the ongoing Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.
According to the Communication Director of the NPP, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, the NDC plotted the incident with the view to discredit the credibility of the Electoral Commission and the results of the by-election.
