Violence in Ghanaian politics is phenomenon that is perhaps, as old as the country itself.
Obviously, it is not the intention for any well-meaning person to have their politics marred by physical abuse of anyone, not least, the people entrusted with power to make decisions on everyone's behalf.
YEN.com.gh earlier highlighted that Ghanaians have been conditioned to trust in the power of violence.
In light of the violence that rocked the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election of Thursday, January, 31, 2019, YEN.com.gh brings you five occasions that politicians where brutalised following election-related violence.
1. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful in Odododiodio
In 2012, then Ursula Owusu was in the Odododiodio Constituency to monitor pre-elections registration. She ended up with a bruised face and head.
Owusu claimed the harm was done to her by thugs hired by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
2. Gabby Otchere-Darko in Talensi
New Patriotic Party (NPP) strategist, Gabby Otchere-Darko tweeted in 2015 that he and other members of the party had dodged shots fired at them during the Talensi by-election of that year.
3. Ama Sey in Akwatia
As reported by NPP politician, Henry Kokofu on January 31, 2019, the rise of Ama Sey from a modest hairdresser to a parliamentarian in 2016 was proceeded by the woman being shot in the leg.
Sey reportedly had to go vote the following day from the hospital.

4. Sam George in Ayawaso West Wuogon
The most recent occasion that saw a politician being assaulted was the just ended by-election in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.
Sam George of Ningo-Prampram was slapped as caught on video.
