Ghanaian professional boxer, Richard Commey, will take on Russia’s Isa Chaniev on February 2, 2019, in Frisco, Texas.
At the stake for the upcoming fight is the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) world lightweight strap.
However, Commey is seeking to become Ghana’s ninth world champion after DK Poison, Azumah Nelson, Nana Yaw Konadu, Ike Quartey, Alfred Kotey, Joseph Agbeko, Joshua Clottey and Isaac Dogboe.
But before the James Town native achieve that feat he must overcome the Russian.
Ahead of the fight, YEN.com.gh highlights four reasons why Commey will become Ghana’s next world champion.
Commey is the experience comparing the two, he has fought 29 times, losing two and winning 27. Chaniev has fought only 14 times losing one and winning 13.
Commey has fought credible and tough opponents (Robert Easter Jr. Denis Shafikov and Alejandro Luna) while Chaniev only tough opponent is Fedor Papazov.
2. Home fighter
Commey is been promoted by Dibella Entertainment and they are promoting this fight. Despite being a Ghanaian, he currently based in New York.
When Commey challenged Robert Easter Jr. for the IBF title the latter was the home fighter and the Ghanaian lost via a controversial split decision.
3. Better preparation
Ahead of this fight, Commey has had good training camp as compare to Chaniev. Commey is trained by one of the best trainers in the world, Andre Rozier.
The Ghanaian in preparing for this fight sparred with Danny Jacobs (IBF World middleweight champion) and Chris Algieri (former world champion).
4. Commey is the bigger boxer
Though the two are lightweight boxers but Commey is bigger than Isa Chaniev. He has better reach than the Russian.
Commey can land better shots than Chaniev.
