Ghanaians have descended heavily on the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) over a press it held concerning the violence that erupted at Ayawaso West Wuogon by election last Thursday.
It will be recalled that the by-election which saw the NPP's Lydia Alhassan winning to replace her late husband Kyeremateng Agyarko as MP was nearly marred.
This followed gun violence that occurred at the Bawaleshie house of the NDC candidate, Delali Kwesi Brempong, and the La-Bawaleshie Presby polling station in the same neighbourhood.
The violence which saw seven people getting injured and National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP Sam George getting slapped led the NDC to boycott the by-election after it had accused the NPP of using its vigilante groups to visit such mayhem on NDC supporters.
In a quick response, the organised a press conference alleging that the NDC orchestrated the shooting during the by-election.
“This is masterminded to discredit the ongoing elections and prepare minds probably for what purposes we can’t tell, and this is to negatively damage the integrity of the Electoral Commission and the government,” NPP Communication Director Yaw Buabeng Asamoah stated at the press conference.
The NPP's claim has however incurred the wrath of a section of Ghanaians who have taken to social media to lambaste the party for making such an allegation.
Alhassan described the NPP's leaders as animals:
Aseye wondered why the NDC would want to hurt its own people:
Djornor described both parties as a disgrace:
Zaotego thought the violence showed how NPP was:
