Ghanaians blast Peace Council chair for condemning Mahama's comments

The chairman of the National Peace Council (NPC), Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante has asked former president John Mahama to issue an apology to the nation for boasting of the violence his party could be forced to unleash.

Mahama was speaking to supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region on the violence that occurred during the by-election in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.

Reacting to Mahama’s warning to the NPP, Rev. Asante told Class 91.3FM on Friday, February 1, 2019, that the former president ought to be circumspect in his speech.

So YEN.com.gh asked readers via Facebook what they made of the chairman of the NPC's rebuttal to John Mahama.

Emmanuel Agyei Owusu wrote that: "If the peace council knows their responsibilities then they should first call Kennedy Agyapong to order". It sounds as if the Facebook user is describing the Council as hypocritical.

Another Facebook user said they found it difficult to understand why a "politically-inclined" Rev Prof Asante is made the chairman of the Council. Frank Yao Noamesi feels the reverend is biased.

Another Facebook user agreed with John Mahama that it was necessary to match political opponents "boot for boot".

And lastly, Abu Fakhrudeen Konlan Yennukwa described the Council's head as a disgrace to humanity because of his response to Mahama.
