- At the ceremony, he called on Ghanaians living abroad to support the decision to build the cathedral
President Akufo-Addo has called on Ghanaians living abroad to help build the national cathedral.
Speaking at a fundraising ceremony at Washington DC in the United States, the president noted that the cathedral will be an act of thanksgiving to God “for His blessings, favour, grace and mercy over our nation.”
According to Adomonline.com, he went on to say that the cathedral will also promote unity among Christians, and this will extend to the entire nation since majority of Ghanaians are Christians.
“71% of the Ghanaian people adhere to the Christian religion, grouped under the various persuasions of the Christian faith.
The interdenominational national cathedral will help unify the Christian community and thereby promote national unity and social cohesion,” he noted.
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that President Akufo-Addo revealed the national cathedral is a priority among priorities.
He added that the cathedral will help promote tourism, as its varied features will encourage people, especially those living abroad, to realize all that Ghana has to offer.
“It will be an iconic infrastructure for national, regional and international pilgrimage and tourism. That is why we are trying to mobilize the Christian community, home and abroad to join us in partnership to raise the needed resources to build the cathedral,” he explained.
The president also reiterated that building the cathedral is in fulfillment of the promise he made to God before winning the 2016 general elections.
