The newly-elected parliamentarian for the constituency of Ayawaso West Wuogon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan, has visited victims of the violence of January 31, 2019, who were wounded by gunshots from masked men alleged to be National Security operatives.
In a Facebook post sighted by YEN.com.gh, the lawmaker, popularly known as Maa Lydia, was seen in photos talking to a man lying in a hospital bed.
AccompnYing her were the deputy minister of information, Pius Hadzidze and the national organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku.
It is not immediately clear which hospital Maa Lydia went to see the victims since they were shared between the Legon Hospital and the 37 Military Hospital, both in Accra.
Over six people were shot by masked men, identified as operatives from the National Security apparatus in the morning of the by-election.
As a result, the Minority walked out of Parliament in protest of the swearing-in of Lydia Seyram Alhassan but not before some hurled abuses at her and her colleagues in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on February 5, 2019.
The opposition lawmakers did not leave the chamber of Parliament without drama as cameras captured some of the members holding signs and placards saying, "Bloody Widow".
Before the incident in Parliament, the national communications officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, described the widow of the late Emmanuel Boakye Agyarko as a "slay queen widow".
Gyamfi said he was baffled by what he claimed was the wrong conduct of the widow of late New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso West Wuogon.
