Ghana's Black Satellites were beaten 2-0 by hosts Senegal in their second group game at the on-going Africa Youth Championship.
The Satellites entered the Wednesday's match in Maradi with the knowledge that a win on the day will qualify them for the FIFA World Youth Championship in Poland later in the year.
But it was not meant to be as Senegal dominated the game from the start and opened the scoring in the 12 minute through Youssouph Mamadou Badji who headed in from close range after being left unmarked in the area.
Badji made it 2-0 after slotting in on the stroke of half time to put the hosts in a firm control of the match.
Tough Ghana's coach, Jimmy Cobblah, made some changes by replacing Emmanuel Toku with Ibrahim Sadiq to replace the Senegal held on to secure victory.
The win ensures that Senegal booked a place in the semi-finals of the tournament as well as a ticket to the FIFA U-20 world cup in Poland.
In the other group game, Mali beat Burkina Faso 1-0.
This means the Satellites need to avoid defeat against the Malians in their last group in order to qualify for the semis and the FIFA World Cup.
