Paul Adom Otchere attacks MP James Agalga over ‘bloody widow’ comment

- A Ghanaian broadcaster, Paul Adom Otchere, has described the 'bloody widow' tag given by minority MPs to Lydia Seyram Alhassan as uncalled for

- According to him, a walkout is a common practice, but the display of placards with the inscription was not the best

- The minority side in Parliament displayed placards and walked out in protest to Alhassan's swearing in

The host of 'Good Evening Ghana', Paul Adom Otchere, has condemned the decision of members of the minority side in Parliament to display placards bearing the inscription ‘Bloody Widow.’

According to Ghanaweb.com, Otchere argued that the minority side exhibited the highest level of disdain in welcoming Lydia Seyram Alhassan to the house.

He added that their reaction is of the 'dark age' where Ghana was viewed as an uncivilized country with no respect for women.

Paul Adom Otchere was of the view that walking out of parliament in registering a protest is something that is acceptable as ‘normal’ parliamentary practice, but to put out a poster to call a colleague MP ‘bloody widow’ is uncalled for.

He then singled out the Member of Parliament (MP) for Builsa North constituency, saying he should be ashamed of himself.

In his opinion, Agalga’s actions on the day of Alhassan’s swearing-in ought to give him a reason to be ashamed of himself.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the minority in parliament staged a walkout and held out placards as Alhassan was sworn into office.

Sam George, MP for Ningo-Prampram, justifying the minority’s action, said that it is a “normal parliamentary practice”.

According to him, President Akufo-Addo and the late President Atta-Mills suffered similar heckling as they delivered the State of the Nation’s Address.
