- An unidentified man allegedly fired a gun as NDC's Sylvester Mensah sought to meet with party delegates at Kumasi in the Ashanti region
- The man is said to be a supporter of another aspiring flagbearer and sought to cause fear among the delegates
An unidentified man reportedly fired a gun as National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s aspiring flagbearer, Sylvester Mensah, met with party delegates in the Ashanti region.
Starrfm.com.gh reports that the incident occurred on Monday, February 11, 2019, at Suame.
YEN.com.gh understands that the gunshots followed confusion that surrounded the busing of delegates to the venue where Mensah was scheduled to meet with them.
The gunmen, who is yet to be arrested, allegedly supports another aspiring flagbearer, and therefore sought to create fear among the delegates.
According to the Suame constituency organiser, of the NDC, Brogya Gyamfi, the incident could be attributed to the increasing levels of division in the party.
Seven candidates are in the race to lead the party into the 2020 general elections.
They are former president John Mahama, second deputy speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, Professor Joshua Alabi, Sylvester Mensah, Augustus Tanoh, Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah, and Nurudeen Iddrisu.
