In a report YEN.com.gh sighted on Citinewsroom.com, warlord of the Asogli state, Togbe Adzim Laklē Howusu, revealed that the state is not happy with developments concerning the change of name.
In a press conference, the warlord who spoke on behalf of Togbe Afede, paramount chief of the Asogli state, noted that the governing council has not consulted them even though they have heard that processes are underway for the name change.
The warlord revealed that even though they are aware of the intention to rename the school to celebrate composer of the Ghana national anthem, Ephraim Amu, they needed to be consulted first.
Togbe Howusu described the late Dr. Ephraim Amu as a star of the Volta Region and said they indeed admired the greatness of their native.
However, he said even though they recognize the achievement of Ephraim Amu, changing the name of Ho Technical University to eulogize him cannot be done without due diligence and consensus building.
The chiefs noted that the decision, no matter the level it had reached, had to be reversed, after which the necessary consultations done.
The chiefs also reiterated that failure to respect their decision will result in chaos since some youth of the region are already geared up to oppose the move.
President Akufo-Addo in 2018, proposed the change of name and suggested that the school be named after Dr. Ephraim Amu.
It was on such grounds that the governing council is taking steps to effect the name change but the chiefs have opposed the move.
Aside the Ho Technical University, the president has made proposals to get the name of some other top universities changed.
The move however received opposition from several experts with many criticizing the president for such a move.
They claim that the president has a hidden agenda to eulogize some personalities who are linked to his political party and family lineage.
