In Ghana, just like in many African societies, there is an unwritten law that some roles are for women and no matter what, a man must not engage in such duties.
Household duties like washing, cooking, sweeping and even taking of their own babies are not usually undertaken by men where there are women around.
Many men believe that only women should look after children especially when it comes to carrying babies on their backs. Those who are seen doing this are often derided and laughed at and said to have been put under a spell.
However, one man who seems unperturbed by this uncomplimentary tag got tongues wagging on social media after a video of him going out with a baby strapped at his back emerged online.
In a the viral video sighted by YEN.com.gh, the man, dressed in an African print shirt over a pair of trousers and black shoe with the baby strapped in a white piece of cloth.
The smartly dressed who was gazing on his phone as he walked on could be heard saying "yes sir o, senior" in response to greetings from a passerby.
A few seconds later, the man stopped to wait for a woman believed to be his wife who was also dressed in an African print dress. And the two for strolled along.
The video has gathered a lot of attention on social media since it emerged online.
@eugene.rbk who was intrigued by the man's response saw it as gender equality:"The way he said " yes sir o senior " weak me ... But either ways that's a nice thing to do as a father, gender equality."
The video reminded @viviealorbu of her father: "This is so like my dad, God rest his gentle soul.... he did it with so much love and even with my nieces."
@qweenmirah sought to explain why the man might have tried to help his wife:"The woman is too fat to carry the baby all the way to wherever they are going , that's the truth and the man is just being a responsible and loving husband.. Period."
@uniqorn_cosmetics described the video as: "Beautiful n inspiring. God will surely bless your kind."
@iamabynadanuna predicted the man was teacher: "I think he is a teacher because of his shoes"
@makola_online described the man in Twi as"Obarimatan (obaatan) pa ❤️" which simply means a good father.
But @adomlouis did not come with praise as he wondered if the man's mother had seen the video: "I hope the man's mum hasn't seen this... "
