Reports available to YEN.com.gh indicates that Assin Central lawmaker, Kennedy Agyapong, has concluded that he is not going to campaign with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) before the general elections in 2020.
According to a radio interview first reported by MyNewsGh.com, the NPP firebrand declared he would not venture into certain areas to campaign for the party come 2020.
He is quoted as saying: “We went to Magazine and campaigned and that day the crowd that came out was just unimaginable but this time if you ask me to go there today, I will not go because we have disappointed them. I am telling you the truth."
The Member of Parliament (MP) justified his decision by pointing out that government had failed spare parts dealers at Magazine in Kumasi with a promise to slash import duties of spare parts.
He added to his reservations: “I am waiting for them to come and tell me to go outside the country to campaign. I can’t do it because anytime I travel outside the country they ask me about import duties.
Look at Abossey Okai and Kumasi Magazine...But as I speak, there are a lot of ‘book-long’ people in the party who say my economics is elementary."
Agyapong last year observed that the Akufo-Addo government was seemingly not aware of the implications of its tax imposition decisions on Ghanaian businesses.
He said he visited some areas in Tema and reported that high taxes which were causing companies to fold.
Meanwhile, TV show host and comedienne, Afia Schwarzenegger, who has not been in good terms with politician and Assin Central lawmaker Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has showered praise on him in a new video sighted by YEN.com.gh.
