A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Daniel Bugri Naabu, has expressed the conviction that the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, deserves a world-renowned peace award for bringing peace to Dagbon.
In a report first filed by Hamza Lansah Lolly, Bugri Naabu said he believed the president more than the Noble Peace prize for the return of peace to Dagbon.
The protracted chieftaincy disputes in the Dagbon Traditional Area surged on for almost two decades between the Abudu and Andani royal families.
However, through a process championed by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the president, Dagbon has restored an albeit fragile level of stability and installed a new ruler.
Though not a political promise to the people of Dagbon, Akufo-Addo upon assumption of office in 2017, indicated his willingness to add to the process to find lasting peace in Dagbon.
In November 2018, the committee of eminent chiefs, led by the Asantehene and the two feuding families, presented the road map to the president, with a promise to living up to the requirements of the document.
One of the requirements of the road map saw the people anointing Yo Na Abubakar Mahama as new Ya-Naa. He was confirmed Ya-Naa elect by the kingmakers of Dagbon led by the Kuga Naa Adam Abdulai.
Yo Naa Abubakari Mahama was selected after the successful final funeral rites of the late Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani II.
He then ascended to the throne on January 18, 2019.
