SWAT unit punishes security operative who slapped Sam George

- The security operative who slapped Sam George, an MP, has been punished by the SWAT team

- This was revealed by the head of the team, DSP Samuel Kojo Azuku, when he appeared before the Short commission

The security operative who assaulted the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, has been punished for his action, YEN.com.gh has learnt.

According to a report by Dailyguidenewtwork.com, the security operative, who is yet to be identified, was captured slapping the MP.

The commander in charge of national security's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit, DSP Samuel Kojo Azuku, said this when he appeared before the Short commission on Monday, February 18, 2019.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the armed men attacked Sam George during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, which took place on Thursday, January 31, 2019.

There were other reports of violence, one of which is said to have occurred at the home of the parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Delali Kwesi Brempong.

In the heat of the moment, the NDC announced that it was withdrawing from the by-elections, citing violence as its reason.

The by-election however went on as scheduled and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, won with 68.8% of the valid votes cast.

Her closest contender, Brempong, polled 30.52% despite pulling out of the election.
