Over 280 students who partook in 2018's professional law school exams are set to repeat the entire programme.

According to a report by Accra-based Starr FM, a total of 284 students failed in the professional law exams.

Also, 177 students are set for a resit after they were referred in various papers.

Surprisingly, only 64 students are known to have successfully passed the law exams.

The students wrote papers on criminal procedure, civil procedure, company and commercial practice, law practice mgt., legal accountancy, evidence and interpretation, conveyancing and drafting.

However, majority of the failed students reportedly did not do very well in family law, evidence and advocacy.

It would be recalled that the General Legal Counsel was criticized in 2018 after papers for the law entrance exams reportedly leaked.

The reported leakage of the exams for potential law graduates for the Ghana School of Law led to calls for the exams to be scrapped.

The case ended up in court, but the Supreme Court eventually dismissed an injunction application that sought to restrain the General Legal Council from organizing entrance exams.

Meanwhile, 279 new lawyers were called to the Bar in October 2018.

This was after they all successfully underwent a year’s law programme at the Ghana School of Law.

The 284 students who are set to repeat this year is one of the highest recorded in the recent history of the Ghana School of Law.
