Parents of 4-year-old struggle to raise money for son's hole-in-heart operation

A four-year-old boy, Toby Apomuta Abotisum, is in need of support after being diagnosed with hole-in-heart, medically known as known as the pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect.

According to the report available to YEN.com.gh, young Toby's condition requires an immediate surgery to repair his defect, however, the procedure cannot be done in Ghana.

Doctors at the Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital say the operation ought to be done in India because of logistical challenges in Ghana.

A cardiology centre in India has so far been contacted to carry out the operation at an estimated cost of $14,000, an equivalent of about GHC 77, 000.

This amount is thought to include air travel for Toby and his mother.

Toby Apomuta Abotisum is reportedly unable to play with his age mates as expected of a child because of his condition.

His parents, Bismark Apomuta Azorko, a teacher, and Vida Abengyuure, currently a petty trader, are struggling to raise this amount.

Well-meaning Ghanaians are being pleaded with to help in getting young Toby the help he so urgently needs.
