- Former president John Mahama has claimed that there are regular acts of corruption at the Jubilee House
- According to him, President Akufo-Addo often clears his appointees of charges of corruption
- Mahama went on to say that the Akufo-Addo administration will be wrong to assume Ghanaians are happy about their current situation
Former president John Mahama has hinted of regular acts of corruption at the Jubilee House, the seat of government.
According to a report by Starrfm.com.gh, he explained that President Akufo-Addo continues to clear his appointees of corruption.
Speaking in an interview on Radio Gold on Friday, February 22, 2019, he added that people were prosecuted for acts of corruption during his time as president.
Mahama went on to advise the president to refrain from covering up for people, so that they can be prosecuted, in order to increase the level of confidence Ghanaians have in politicians.
He further revealed that public officials such as Abuga Pele, who were caught in acts of corruption, were imprisoned.
To buttress his point, he stated that there are allegations of corruption in places such as the Tema Oil Refinery, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation and Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company.
Mahama, who is seeking to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2020 elections, also said the Akufo-Addo government will be living in a fool’s paradise if they assume Ghanaians are impressed with them.
“Let them continue to live in the fool’s paradise and say they have achieved their promises. Go around to the populace and see if Ghanaians are happy with what they have done.
They continue to say they are digging dams but in essence, what they are doing is a dugout. That is what they are called in the villages,” he said.
A simple way to crosscheck his comments, he added, will be to go out and find out from Ghanaians if the promises made to them have been fulfilled.
Mahama is contesting six other people for the flagbearer slot of the NDC. The election, which comes off on Saturday, February 23, 2019, will be held in all the 275 constituencies across the country.
