Former president and founder of the National Democratic Congress, Jerry John Rawlings, has congratulated John Mahama for winning the just-ended NDC primaries.
In a Facebook post that Rawlings made, the founder applauded John Mahama for coming first among 7 aspirants who competed.
"My congratulations to former President J. D. Mahama on his election as the presidential candidate of the NDC," he wrote.
"My congratulations also go to all the other candidates for the dignified manner they conducted themselves throughout the process and for accepting the results in a mature and good-natured manner," he added.
Rawlings also noted that while congratulating themselves as a party for a relatively smooth process, the NDC have to remember that this is only the first step of the task to convince the larger Ghanaian electorate.
"I urge the candidate, the party leadership and all the grassroots to work together to re-embrace the NDC’s core principles in a bid to carve a positive message and image for the party," he stressed.
On February 23, 2019, seven NDC officials competed in the race to elect a new flagbearer of the party going into the 2020 elections.
Former president John Mahama emerged winner after he amassed over 90% of the total votes cast.
After winning, John Mahama said the NDC was ready to snatch power from President Akufo-Addo and the NPP come 2020.
John Mahama also called on the other contestants and party executives to unite for a possible 2020 victory.
Meanwhile, a delegate in the just-ended NDC elections, Alhaji Abdul Hanan Gundadow, has claimed the Akufo-Addo government will soon come to and end.
According to Gundadow, Ghanaians are not happy with the current government because several promises remain unfulfilled.
