NPP responds to Mahama's flagbearership win; says it will rather make 2020 easier

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said that Mahama's victory in the NDC flagbearer race will make winning 2020 elections easier for the ruling party.

According to Michael Omari Wadie, a vice chairman of the NPP, Mahama’s decisive win in the NDC’s presidential primaries will make it easy to defeat NDC in the 2020 elections.

"We are not worried. We are only excited because they chose him and it will make our work easier and that will also give us the power for a little longer than the [usual] 8 years," he stated.

"We want to remain in power a little longer and as long as it is Mahama, it gives us the confidence that we are winning the next elections," he added.

John Mahama on Saturday, February 23, 2019 won convincingly in the NDC’s presidential primaries after he amassed 95% of the total valid votes cast.

The former Vice-Chancellor of University of Professional Studies; Accra (UPSA), Prof. Joshua Alabi came second with 1.52% of the total votes cast.

Second Deputy Speaker and Member of Parliament for Nadowli/Kaleo, Mr Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin, despite a spirited campaign, polled about 1.03% of the total votes cast, placing third.

Meanwhile two of the aspirants, Goosie Tanoh and Nurudeen Iddrisu were not allowed to vote because they did not meet the NDC requirements.

Chairman of the NDC party, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo revealed that the two have never held any official position in the party to warrant them a delegate status.

John Mahama, after winning the election, thanked his supporters and the entire NDC party for choosing him to lead the party going into the 2020 elections.

John Mahama said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was ready to snatch power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2020 elections.

A delegate in the just-ended NDC elections, Alhaji Abdul Hanan Gundadow, has also claimed the Akufo-Addo government will soon come to and end.

According to Gundadow, Ghanaians are not happy with the current government because several promises remain unfulfilled.
