Former Hearts of Oak playmaker, Bernard Don Bortey has blamed former Black Stars defender John Painstil for his failed career.
The one-time Black Stars winger's career took a nose dive after he was alleged to have stolen a watch and an unspecified amount of money, which he deposited in Paintsil's locker who was then a player for Israeli giants, Maccabi Tel Aviv.
The 2004 CAF Confederation Cup winner speaking to Joy FM reporters on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Pobiman, the training grounds for Hearts Of Oak, debunked the reports over the alleged theft case and accused Paintsil of lying over the issue that heavily cost his career.
"I didn't steal any watch in Israel; John Paintsil lied."
Bortey was lodging with Paintsil during his trial period in Israel and has accused the former West Ham right back of framing him.
He added that the behavior of Painstil is one of the reasons his career took a dip.
Bortey was one of the most exciting players to watch in the domestic league in the early to mid 2000's. He helped Accra Hearts of Oak to league and continental glories with his dominance.
Aside Hearts of Oak, he helped Aduana Stars to win their domestic title eight years ago.
