NDC's national chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has reportedly stated that the party used the services of vigilante groups during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.
He was allegedly caught on tape, as he also stated the reason behind the party's decision to pull out of the by-election.
YEN.com.gh has however gathered some facts from the leaked tape of of the NDC national chairman regarding the Ayawaso violence.
1. It was an NDC meeting of the National Chairman with communicators
Judging from the nature of the leaked tape, it is believed that the those things were said at a meeting of communicators of the party. The chairman is believed to have been discussing those things in a meeting.
2. All the details-plans for Nana Addo, Jean Mensa & Prof. Asante
In the audio, Ampofo is allegedly heard telling a group of people that “we’re going to take her (EC boss) to the cleaners". As part of strategic communication plans for the NDC going into the 2020 elections, Ofosu-Ampofo also gave his blessings for the communicators to deal with the Peace Council chairman, Professor Asante.
3. AWW vigilante groups
Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, confirmed the party used the services of the ‘Azorka Boys’ during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.The “Azorka Boys” had to be transported to Accra from northern Ghana to provide security for the NDC party during the election.
4. The reason NDC pulled out
According to Ofosu Ampofo the NDC candidate in the AWW by-election pulled out of the elections because of very strategic reasons.
5. Forming of Security and Intelligence unit
He also went ahead to say that the NDC would form a Security and Intelligence Unit, which would have a national coordinator working with other officers. According to him, the party will marshal all material resources to ensure that their own security forces are able to fight, but urged them not to adopt a face-to-face approach.
