Ghanaian singer, Lamisi known in real life as Lamisi Akuka, has stated that contrary to the claim that record labels exist in Ghana, there are no record labels in Ghana.
According to her, the so called record labels are not undertaking activities that qualify them to be branded as record labels.
In an interview with YEN.com.gh, the Afro Soul artiste revealed that record labels are supposed to do more for artistes.
"I think there are no record labels in Ghana because record labels are suppose to handle activities like bookings, distribution, branding, take care of costume and a lot more," she said.
"All the artiste needs to do is to think about writing and composing songs but the case is not so since artistes in Ghana often do a lot of the activities themselves," she added.
Lamisi disclosed that since she does not have such a team, she does not belong to a record label but rather a team working together to promote her music.
Lamisi also disclosed that she has learnt a lot from being a backing vocalist for top artistes like Mary Ghansah, Rex Omar, Samini, Becca among others.
She noted that the work of a backing vocalist has provided her with enough experience to survive in the music industry.
Lamisi who launched her first album titled 'Brighter Side' recently, confirmed that a lot of work went into producing the album.
She expressed the stress she went through producing the album since all songs on the album were produced with live instruments.
Lamisi stressed on her willingness to record only good music and abhor profanity as she noted that she wants her music to go global.
Lamisi urged the media and Ghanaians to embrace good music since music is a vessel to send out message and change lives.
