If she wasn’t married then who was her boyfriend? To answer some of the questions here is all you need to know about the late Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng.
Ebony early life and education
Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng was born in Kumasi and raised in urban areas of Ghana. Her family members and close friends used to call her Nana Heema.
Ebony grew up in the Brong Ahafo region in Accra. She was enrolled at Seven Great Princess Academy for her primary education before moving to Methodist Girls High School.
Reigns dropped out of the school to pursue his passion for music. It surprised many people including her parents, friends, and colleagues at the school. What they didn’t know is that a year later he would be one of the most prominent and youngest musicians in Ghana.
Ebony Reigns career
Can you imagine a small kid barely 18 years old dropping out of school in the name of following her music passion, isn’t that crazy enough? Especially in Africa where most parents know that education is the ‘ONLY’ key to success. Well, this saying didn’t apply to Ebony Reigns. She started her career with literally no education certificates.
According to sources, Ebony Reigns was signed to Ruff Town record label after she was discovered by Bullet, a top musician and an entrepreneur from Ruff n Smooth.
In December 2015, the youngster released her first single known as “Dancefloor.” The song was a hit – every radio station used to play it daily. The whole of Ghana was dancing to the beats of the fantastic song. It landed her a nomination for the unsung category in 2016 at Ghana Music Awards.
Later, Ebony released another hit song by the name “Kupe.” It earned her a lot of interviews in all the leading TV and radio stations in the country.
How did Ebony Reigns die?
When did Ebony die? She died on February 8th, 2016 after being involved in a road accident. She was travelling from Sunyani to Accra after visiting her mother when their vehicle was hit. Ebony died on the spot. Her assistant Franklina Yaa Nkansah Kuri and Atsu Vondee were in her car and died on the spot.
Ebony accident happened eight days to her 21st birthday.
On March 24th, 2018, she was laid to rest at Osu cemetery. Many top government officials attended the burial.
Controversies surrounding Ebony’s death
The whole nation was divided on what caused the accident which claimed the life of Ebony. Some people believed that the traffic collision could be prevented if the roads in the country were well maintained and adequately lighted. This is especially true because the Mankranso road she was travelling on was in a horrible condition that night.
Other civilians thought that it was just an act of God and could not be prevented even if roads were well constructed. Some pastors had earlier came out and prophesied that Ebony would kick the bucket if she didn’t change her racy lifestyle.
Weeks later after her burial, Dr Lawrence Tetteh, one of the most prominent pastors in Ghana, came out and condemned some musicians and business that were making more money from the death of Ebony. Lawrence didn’t appreciate how companies like GTP (Ghana Textile Printing Limited) manufactured new T-shirts with Ebony’s pictures and songs to make profits yet he was the one who contributed a lot of money on her funeral.
GOT (Ghanaians On Twitter) and other social media platforms like Facebook reacted to his statement. Many believed that his words were senseless.
Ebony Reigns boyfriend
Ebony kept her love life a secret. During a particular interview, she indicated that she had a boyfriend. When asked for more details about him, she refused to give out more information.
While she was alive, Ebony used to hang out with O Gee who by that time was a rising artist. Together they shared a lot of romantic moments as evidently seen from many of their photos and videos. The two were very close, and we would, therefore, expect her death to leave an emptiness in his heart.
Speaking on GHONE TV, O Gee broke down into crying like a little child. He couldn’t hold back his tears when asked about her girlfriend.
On that day we were chatting on Snapchat and making fun of each other when she suddenly stopped replying messages,” he recalled bitterly.
He added on and said that Ebony was so special to him and that he treated him like a king.
O Gee revealed that on that day Ebony had cooked Jollof for him since she knew that he loved it.
Her smiles were infectious, she has a kind heart, she had so many lined-up activities for this year, we were going to tour Europe. Who else is going to be like Ebony? I don’t think I will find someone as special and talented like her,” O Gee said amidst bitter tears.
However, Ruff Town records trashed these claims stating that O Gee was just her friend. Speaking on Classic FM 91.3, Alexander, the Ruff Town records publicist revealed that O Gee was just her hype man.
Ogee and Ebony were very close friends, but he was her hype man but nothing else. When a girl and guy are always moving together there is always an assumption that they are dating, Ogee is a hype man, and that was what he did. Posting her pictures on his page was just for ebony’s publicity nothing else”, he revealed.
