NDC supporters besiege police headquarters to demand release of Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo

The National Democratic Congress(NDC) supporters on Monday, March 4, 2019, besieged the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to demand the release of National Chairman of the party, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo.

In a report sighted by YEN.com.gh on Citinewsroom.com, this comes hours after National Democratic Congress (NDC) Greater Accra Regional Organiser, Anthony Nukpenu said party supporters massed up at the police headquarters might become agitated if the interrogation of Ampofo takes too long.

Ofosu-Ampofo was at the CID head office after he was invited following a viral leaked audio in which he allegedly made some comments bordering on the security of some persons and the country ahead of the 2020 general elections.

In the same tape, he is heard telling the audience believed to be executives of the party to attack the Chairperson of the Peace Council Chairman, Professor Emmanuel Asante.

According to the party’s National Organizer Joshua Hamidu Akamba, Ofosu Ampofo has been charged with attempting to cause harm and incite,

He also expressed disgust at how the police have handled the case so far.

YEN.com.gh had earlier reported how Ofosu-Ampofo has been charged by the police over the purported audio recording of him which has been making rounds in the media.

Ofosu-Ampofo has been charged with threat of harm, conspiracy to cause harm, assaulting a public official, and rioting.

Ofosu-Ampofo who was placed under arrest over the tape has been granted a bail in the sum of GHC400,000.
