Jumia Ghana to partner more SMEs for growth

As a marketplace designed to connect businesses with consumers, Jumia Ghana, the e-commerce leader in Ghana has thrown its weight behind a call made by Dr Agnes Adu, the CEO of the Ghana Trade Fair Company, for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the country to consider exploring e-commerce as an avenue for growth and expansion of their businesses.

Dr Adu in an interview with Joy Business on the sidelines of the opening for the 23rd edition of the International Trade Fair Exhibition in Accra is reported to have asked SMEs to be prepared to use technology to compete with their counterparts in other jurisdictions through e-commerce.

Commenting on the call by Dr Adu, Ore Odusanya, the Managing Director of Jumia Ghana says “Jumia as an e-commerce leader is committed to creating opportunities and growing small and medium scale businesses in Ghana.” “We thus share in Dr Adu’s appeal for SMEs to consider leveraging the opportunities and the growth e-commerce offers” Ore added

“Jumia has partnered and empowered hundreds of SME players in the fashion, electronics, food and beauty industry, among other sectors and this relationship has been beneficial to all parties” he reveals. “We are prepared and ready to support even more SMEs that are determined to increase patronage of their goods and services, and by so doing, grow their businesses” he concluded.

Africa’s e-commerce sector generated USD 16.5 billion in revenue in 2017, according to data from Jumia, and with the sector projected to generate revenue in excess of over USD 29 billion by 2022, Ghana can tap into this huge platform to grow and expand its economy for development.
