Cop beaters remanded in police custody until April 1

The bus driver and his conductor (mate) who assaulted a policeman are set to appear before court on April 1, 2019 after being remanded.

The two were filmed beating up a police officer following a disagreement around the Weija to Kasoa road.

They have since been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and causing unlawful damage, although they reportedly pleaded not guilty.

A video that has gone viral on social media shows the pair shedding tears and claiming they were assaulted first by the said policeman.

What crime have I committed? Look at my nose. He [the Police officer] hurt me,” the driver is captured saying.

Reports suggest the incident happened when the said police officer tried to rebuke the driver and his conductor for stopping in the middle of the road at Weija to pick passengers.

However, the driver reportedly sped off when he saw the officer, who also decided to chase him on a motorbike.

The policeman subsequently ordered the driver to stop the vehicle and attempted to move them to the police station, but the driver and his mate reportedly refused and launched an attack on the officer.
