- Ghanaians are happier currently than they were last year
- This is according to the 2019 World Happiness Report
Ghana has been ranked as the 98th and seventh happiest country in the world and Africa respectively in the 2019 World Happiness Report.
This is an improvement on the 2018 rankings in which Ghana placed 108th and 12th in the world and Africa respectively.
The report, released on Wednesday, March 19, 2019, has Finland occupying the first position while South Sudan came last on the list of 156 countries ranked.
Finland maintained first place with Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Netherlands, Switzerland, New Zealand, Canada, Sweden, and Austria taking the second to 10th positions respectively.
Notably, the United Kingdom and the United States placed 15th and 19th respectively with China coming 93rd.
In Africa, Ghana came behind Mauritius, Libya, Algeria, Morocco, Nigeria, Cameroon in the first to sixth positions respectively. Ivory Coast, Benin, and Congo Brazzaville completed the top 10 list in Africa.
Undertaken by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network’s, the World Happiness Report ranks countries according to their scores for things such as GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, social freedom, generosity and absence of corruption.
Per this year's ranking, it could be said that Ghanaians are happier now even though there is so much talk about the state of Ghana's economy under President Nana Akufo-Addo.
